Public Works Parks Division


pickup resizedThe Public Works Parks Division is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, inspection, and safety of Township parks and recreational facilities.


Employees work year-round to ensure public facilities remain safe, clean, functional, and attractive for residents and visitors while maintaining compliance with state regulations and environmental standards.

Parks Division Daily Operations

Grounds and Landscape Maintenance
  • Mow and maintain more than 120 acres of park property on recurring schedule
  • Trim grass around trees, signs, fences, playgrounds, athletic facilities, and buildings
  • Edge sidewalks, curbing, and walking paths
  • Remove weeds and maintain landscaping beds
  • Plant, water, mulch, prune, and maintain trees, shrubs, flowers, and ornamental landscaping
  • Remove fallen trees, limbs, and storm debris
  • Perform seasonal Leaf collection and landscape cleanup
Trails and Open Space
  • Maintain approximately 2 miles of walking trails
  • Remove litter, branches, and debris from trails
  • Repair trail surfaces as needed
  • Control vegetation along trail corridors
  • Inspect bridges, culverts, railings, and trail signage for safety
Public Splash Pad Operations
  • Utilize six state-licensed public pool operators to oversee the daily operation of the Township splash pad
  • Perform required water chemistry testing and documentation
  • Monitor pumps, filtration, and disinfection systems
  • Conduct daily inspections to ensure compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Health regulations
  • Respond to operational issues and preform routine maintenance
Pesticide and Vegetation Management
  • Utilize three state-licensed pesticide and herbicide applicators
  • Control invasive vegetation and nuisance weeds
  • Apply herbicides and pesticides in accordance with all state and federal regulations
  • Maintain healthy turf, landscaped areas, and park aesthetics using environmentally responsible practices
Playground Safety
  • Inspect and maintain three public playgrounds daily
  • Check equipment for damage, loose hardware, trip hazards, and vandalism
  • Repair or remove unsafe equipment immediately
  • Maintain protective surfacing and ensure compliance with playground safety standards
  • Remove litter and ensure playground cleanliness
Restroom Maintenance
  • Clean, sanitize, inspect, and maintain four public restroom facilities each day
  • Restock paper products, soap, and other supplies
  • Address plumbing issues and minor repairs
  • Remove graffiti and vandalism when necessary
Dog Park Maintenance
  • Maintain a 1-acre public dog park
  • Remove waste and litter
  • Empty trash receptacles
  • Inspect fencing, gates, benches, and amenities
  • Maintain turf and walking surfaces to ensure safe use
Pickleball Court Maintenance
  • Maintain four pickleball courts
  • Clean court surfaces and remove debris
  • Inspect nets, fencing, gates, and court accessories
  • Repair cracks and surface deficiencies as needed
  • Ensure courts remain safe and playable
Park Amenities
  • Clean and inspect park pavilions and shelters
  • Maintain picnic tables, grills, benches, drinking fountains, bike rack, and trash receptacles
  • Repair or replace damaged amenitites
  • Maintain parking lots, curbing, sidewalks, and access drives
  • Inspect and maintain park lighting and electrical systems
Trash Collection and Cleanliness
  • Empty trash and recycling containers throughout the park system
  • Remove litter from all park areas
  • Clean illegal dumping and debris when necessary
  • Maintain an attractive and welcoming environment for visitors
Safety Inspections and Repairs
  • Conduct routine inspections of all park facilities
  • Identify and correct hazardous conditions
  • Repair fencing, gates, signs, bollards, and park infrastructure
  • Respond to storm damage, vandalism, and emergency maintenance requests
  • Install and replace regulatory, informational, and directional signage
Seasonal Operations
  • Spring park preparation and inspections
  • Mulching and landscape enhancements
  • Irrigation system startup and winterization
  • Fall leaf removal and seasonal cleanup
  • Snow and ice removal from sidewalks, parking lots, and park entrances as required
  • Holiday decorating and seasonal facility preparation
Event Support
  • Prepare parks for Township-sponsored events, festivals, and community gatherings
  • Set up and remove tables, barricades, signs, trash containers, and temporary facilities
  • Coordinate cleanup before, during, and after special events
